Recycled Soda Top Bracelet

I have fragile wrists. I'm always encountering situations in the course of every day life then end up just randomly breaking my wrist. For instance, a couple weeks ago I went and ordered a burger from my favorite Fair Trade organic fast food establishment (OK, that doesn't exist--I have no idea where the beef came from or what kind of chemicals were in it). They go to hand me the bag, but they don't warn me about how heavy the bag is going to be. So I grab it expecting it to be light, but actually it's heavy. And, of course, my wrist just snaps. And this is just about a week removed from recovering from the high-five that I gave my brother when Landon Donavan scored that goal in the world cup.

Fortunately, I've found a solution. I've started wearing these recycled soda top bracelets on each wrist, and they are basically like armor. I mean, my wrist is technically still broken right now from the burger incident, but I actually just participated in an all-day arm-wrestling tournament yesterday and didn't have any problem with my wrist at all. I also got in a street fight while walking home from the arm wrestling tournament. I threw a few punches that connected, and my wrist felt find. I also got shot in the wrist, but the bullet just hit the soda tops and ricocheted right off. Amazing.

Yep, my life is really turning around thanks to these recycled soda top bracelets!

This whole topic of “fair trade” is so important. At the very least, fair trade offers real hope for helping to alleviate poverty for so many people around the globe.

A great way to learn more about fair trade is by participating in The Fair Trade Futures Conference being held September 10 to 12 in Quincy, MA. Not only is this the largest fair trade conference in the U.S., I am told it will be the largest Fair Trade event in North American history.

There’s a lot of information at the conference web site, http://fairtradeconference.ning.com/

I plan to attend to find out more about how to advance the fair trade cause right in my hometown. There will be lots of workshops, and something like 50 different fair trade vendors exhibiting.

Does something like this make sense to you?
